Simmonds Architecture Showcasing Innovative Kitchen Designs at Doors Open Ottawa 2023
We are delighted to be making our debut appearance for the 21st anniversary of Doors Open Ottawa. Taking place on June 3 and 4, we are excited for the opportunity to let the community walk through our newly renovated office space for the first time.
Doors Open Ottawa is a highly anticipated architectural and heritage event that allows the public to explore Ottawa’s sites of architectural interest and to gain insight into the creative processes behind these spaces.
“The theme of this year’s event is food,” says Christopher Simmonds, Principal Architect with Simmonds Architecture. “Preparing and sharing food are at the centre of family life, and kitchens are at the heart of any home we design.”
Showcasing Kitchen Designs
Those who visit our office will get a chance to see how our kitchen projects evolve by viewing design drawings, renderings, photography, and physical material samples. Members of our team will be available to answer questions and offer insight into our approach to creating functional, unique kitchen spaces.
“We spend a lot of time exploring our clients’ interests around their kitchen design – we use our skills to bring their ideas into reality,” says Conrado Canolo, Senior Designer with Simmonds Architecture. “We are looking forward to displaying various kitchen works and material examples to illustrate how an architectural firm of our size and type operates.”
Immersed in Creativity
Upon stepping into Simmonds Architecture at 340 Catherine Street, guests will experience our design philosophy firsthand. Designed by our own team, the space features oak counters, abundant natural lighting, and large windows that create an inviting atmosphere to work and collaborate. The conference room, strategically located in the heart of the space, is a unique centrepiece with an angular, partially transparent block featuring detailed glass and ribbed cladding panels. Though minimalistic in design, the space exudes warmth with clean whites and natural greys and a careful curation of different textures.
Engaging with the Community
Doors Open Ottawa serves as a terrific way for us to connect with the local community. By opening our doors to the public, we hope to foster a deeper understanding of our projects and to demonstrate how an architectural firm works. This community engagement not only promotes architectural appreciation but also allows for meaningful interactions with visitors, architects, and design enthusiasts alike.
