Canal View Condo

Ottawa, Ontario

Located in a renowned 1970’s condominium, this outdated suite was completely gutted to make way for a modern and refined interior that reflects the owners’ classic style. The 12th floor corner suite has two aspects with breathtaking views of the city and Rideau Canal. The material palette is restrained in order to allow the panoramic view to capture attention upon entering the space.

The suite exudes a calm elegance. Subtle paint colours and large format tile flow throughout, creating a tranquil atmosphere. A collection of eclectic art and furniture amassed through a life well travelled enlivens the space.

High gloss, white lacquered cabinets in the kitchen serve as the backdrop to life in the suite. The modern kitchen features a counter-depth fridge, wall ovens and a coffee and wine bar. Glossy taupe cabinets in the island complement the marble-look quartz countertops. Under-cabinet lights illuminate the pattern matched backsplash with continuous veining.

Double doors make the den feel like an extension of the main living space. When closed, they keep the sound of the television out of the rest of the living space. A pull-out sofa allows it to function as a guest bedroom. A full wall of built-in shelving displays books, photographs and other objets d’art. Additionally, the room functions as a work space with a desk running the full width of the room. The sill-height work surface frames an inspiring view of the Glebe and the city’s west end in the distance.

Instead of taking floor area away from the bedroom for a walk-in-closet, closet space is provided in floor-to-ceiling millwork lining the bedroom. This unique design provides and abundance of storage space while preserving a generously sized bedroom. In contrast to the high-gloss kitchen cabinetry, the millwork in the bedroom has a softer, low-sheen finish and luxurious stainless steel inlay.
